Walk Cheshire’s beautiful Sandstone Trail

Start your day in Frodsham, before climbing to the summit of Overton Hill from where Delamere Forest lies ahead, the perfect destination for a picnic. Further along the trail, on the outskirts of Delamere Forest, is a hidden gorge called Urchin’s Kitchen. It’s a glacial melt-water channel formed at the end of the last Ice Age and well worth a visit along the way.

Leaving the forest, you climb up on to a ridge overlooking the Welsh hills before finally reaching the pretty market town of Tarporley, with its abundance of pubs, coffee shops and hotels; you can opt to stay here before continuing on with your journey.

There’s plenty more to see and do: stop off at Beeston and Peckforton Castle, try your hand at making candles at the Cheshire Candle Workshops or sample delicious Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.
